Things to see and do:

1. Harbour Quay in Port Alberni is where you can arrange salmon fishing charters or trips down Alberni Inlet to Barkley Sound on the M.V. Lady Rose. The Lady Rose is a small freighter, which carries goods and passengers to small coastal communities. Bring your camera for possible sightings of black bear, bald eagles, whales, or sea lions. During the summer the Lady Rose or the Frances Barkley sail daily for Bamfield or for Ucluelet via the Broken Group Islands. The Broken Group (part of Pacific Rim National Park) is where kayakers are dropped off to explore and camp.

Harbour Quay is also the place to hop aboard the steam train for a visit to the past at McLean's Mill. McLean's Mill is a National Heritage site featuring a fully operational restored steam sawmill and company town. From Harbour Quay a tour of an active logging site can also be arranged. Mill tours are also available.

2. In just over an hour you can drive highway 4(Pacific Rim Highway) to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Here you can visit Ucluelet, a picturesque village with several new, interesting hiking trails. Then head out to Pacific Rim National Park with its eleven miles of white sand at Long Beach and booming surf on the open Pacific. Tidal pools abound amongst the outcroppings of rocks. There are plenty of hiking trails and nature walks. Visit Tofino next. Here, as in Ucluelet, you can arrange for kayaking, and whale watching tours. A boat ride away is Hot Springs Cove. After a short hike to the springs enjoy the peace of the pools within the rainforest setting.

3. A visit to Cathedral Grove is a must! It's a half - hour drive and you will enjoy the walking paths as you stroll through the ancient forest.

4. Stamp Falls is a half hour drive and well worth the trip. Here you can see the returning salmon trying to leap the falls before they discover the man-made "fish ladders" to ease their way. Forest trails and picnic tables make this an enjoyable outing.

5. The Martin Mars water bombers are just across the lake from The Sheridan B&B. They are magnificent to watch, and if you are lucky you'll see them do a practice drop at their base. They are the world's largest water bombers and are used in the summer to fight forest fires in British Columbia. You can use our canoe to paddle over and see just how large they are!

Summer rates are $90.00 per room, and third person is $15.00. Cots are available.
